Toward a Differential Architecture
— An Architecture Open to Difference —
Buildings are anchored to the ground, yet the Earth is in constant motion. Rotation and revolution weave “time” from differences and repetitions, inscribing the cycles of the seasons and of day and night into our daily lives. Environmental elements such as light, wind, and trees each carry their own rhythms, and we continue to change, moving with or resisting them.
If the essence of the environment lies in “difference,” that is, the subtle changes that weave the fabric of time, then architecture must respond with a “flexible scenario.”
Architecture is a “time experience” that accrues layers over the years. We pursue an “architecture open to difference” that responds to changes in human growth and activity, leading everyday life toward new discoveries.
